Carbon dioxide (carbonic acid gas, carbonic anhydride, carbonic oxide or carbon (IV) oxide) is a colourless (under normal conditions) and almost odourless gas (with a sharp acidic odour in high concentrations) with chemical formula CO2.
It is commonly used as a cheap inert component of XPS insulation boards in order to form an expanded multicomponent gas system with a cellular polymer structure.
